Notice to Prospective PhD Students Advanced Road & Transportation Engineering Lab - ARTEL (https://carleton.ca/artel/) in the civil and environmental engineering department at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada has openings for 2 fully-funded PhD students. Successful candidates can join their programs in Fall 2025, Winter 2026, or as early as possible. These positions are part of a federally funded research project and offer an excellent opportunity to contribute to innovative work in transportation and pavement engineering. The selected PhD students will engage in research in one or more of the following areas: climate change impacts on transportation infrastructure and pavements, pavement data science and management, life cycle assessment (LCA) of pavements, and development of self-healing and sustainable paving materials, including the use of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), recycled plastics, and other novel materials. This is a unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment addressing some of the most pressing challenges in infrastructure resilience and sustainability. According to Carleton University’s admission policy, only applicants who hold a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field will be considered for admission. A minimum TOEFL iBT score of 90 (with at least 23 in writing) or an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 overall (with at least 6.5 in writing and no band below 6.0) is required for admission.
